We’re backing Enable to emulate the mighty Treve by coming out on top for the second straight year in our Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe tips.
John Gosden’s filly galloped her rivals into the ground when scoring at Chantilly 12 months ago and can pull off a repeat triumph at the revamped Paris Longchamp this season.
Last year’s victory followed four other emphatic Group One triumphs, including Classic glory in the English and Irish Oaks.
This time around, Enable has had to overcome a training setback which saw her sidelined throughout the summer showpiece meetings.
However, she proved her well-being when returning to action with a smooth success against the high-class Crystal Ocean at Kempton last month and can benefit from being fresh for another trip to France.
“Getting out there and blowing the cobwebs away at Kempton has mentally settled Enable a lot,” Gosden said. “She was getting so angry and frustrated.
“It’s like any footballer or athlete, they want to get out and have a competition. Then you drop your shoulders a bit, you relax and get in the zone.
“She did it well and seems in great order. We are very happy with her.”
Class out to uphold family honour
Sea The Class is next best in the market at 3/1 after coming with a late surge to land the Irish Oaks and then following up with an impressive Group One success at York.
Her sire Sea The Stars claimed this prize back in 2009, but William Haggas’ filly will need luck in running if again held up in a big field here.
Home hopes of securing a first triumph for France since Treve completed her double delight four years ago may rest with Andre Fabre’s Waldgeist.
The four-year-old has made good progress this term, winning the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and the Prix Foy, but this represents a stiffer test for the 13/2 chance.
Battaash also bids for a repeat victory in the Prix de l’Abbaye but has plenty to prove following a disappointing effort in the Nunthorpe at York.
City Light could represent better value here, having impressed when winning at this course back in May before going down by just a short-head in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.
Christophe Soumillon may have been guilty of over-confidence in this colt’s last couple of races but he can now rise to the occasion.
