Nathan Aspinall will be hoping his victory in the Players Championship 7 can help him return to winning ways in the Premier League in Newcastle on Thursday night.
‘The Asp’ won a second Players Championship title of the season on Saturday and now meets Gerwyn Price, who has lost his last two in the Premier League.
Here are our five Premier League darts betting tips which if they are all successful will generate around £53 from a £1 accumulator.
Michael Smith to beat Gary Anderson @ 7/5
Smith saw his three-game winning streak in the Premier League ended by a 7-4 defeat to world champion Peter Wright in Liverpool, but we are backing him to respond against mentor Anderson, who is still to find some consistency to his game following a long-term absence with a back injury. Smith has won the last four meetings with the ‘Flying Scotsman’ and can continue that run.
Michael van Gerwen to beat Rob Cross @ 2/5
Van Gerwen backed up his UK Open final win over Price to beat the Welshman 7-5 in another cracking contest on Night Six. The Dutchman, bidding for a fifth successive Premier League title, remains one point behind leader Glen Durrant. Cross is without a Premier League win in four outings and has lost his previous seven meetings with ‘Mighty Mike’, a trend we don’t see ending on Tyneside.
Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price to draw @ 3/1
This has all the ingredients to be a classic. Aspinall won his second Players Championship title of the year in Barnsley, which included a 6-1 thrashing of Van Gerwen, and is sitting fourth in his debut Premier League campaign. Price will be desperate to halt a two-game losing run and pick up only a second win but we just feel this clash is too close to call.
Daryl Gurney to beat Chris Dobey @ 6/5
Gurney sits bottom of the pile on two points and is the only player yet to win in the Premier League. The Northern Irishman will view a match against one of the challengers as one he has to win if he is to avoid elimination. Bedlington-born Dobey squandered a 5-1 lead to draw 6-6 with Mensur Suljovic at this venue last year and he will be left waiting for his first win in the competition.
Peter Wright to beat Glen Durrant @ 39/50
Another game which could be a thriller. Wright has won three of his last four matches in the Premier League, which he says is “the best we’ve had in a long time”. Durrant, the three-time BDO champion, is enjoying his debut campaign and sits top of the table with nine points but Wright has won five of their seven meetings including the last four, and we are backing the champion to come out on top against his Middlesbrough-born opponent.
