Aston Villa will take a slender advantage into the second leg of their Championship play-off against West Brom and can advance with a draw at the Hawthorns.
Villa came from behind to prevail 2-1 on home turf and Albion must now cope without star striker Dwight Gayle following his late dismissal.
It was 2-2 when these sides met here during the regular season and 12/5 for another stalemate is our initial West Brom vs Aston Villa prediction.

After Gayle pounced on a defensive error to open the scoring in the 16th minute on Saturday, West Brom were content to sit back and soak up Villa’s pressure.
That gameplan worked well for a long time, but Conor Hourihane’s rocket and Tammy Abraham’s penalty turned the match around in the final 15 minutes to give Villa a narrow lead.
Gayle, who was earlier booked for time wasting, then received a second yellow card after making contact with Jed Steer as he slid in to reach James Morrison’s cross.
Caretaker boss Jimmy Shan admitted the 28-year-old, who has scored 23 Championship goals this term after joining on loan from Newcastle, will be a big loss now suspended for the return fixture.
“He is a goal threat, but gives you so much more, he is going to be a big blow,” said Shan.
Shan accepted Albion must try to get on the front foot in the home leg if they are going to overturn the deficit and reach Wembley, adding: “That’s the approach we’re going to have to have.”
That could leave them more open at the back, though, so 13/4 for a score draw is another tempting option from the West Brom vs Aston Villa odds.
A Look At Aston Villa’s Betting Odds
Villa went behind when Gayle drilled in from the edge of the area after Glenn Whelan’s error gave him a clear run through.
Jay Rodriguez had earlier hit the bar and Albion looked like holding on until the 75th minute, when Hourihane netted a stunner from 20 yards.
Just 202 seconds later, Villa were ahead when Kieran Gibbs brought down Jack Grealish in the box and Abraham netted his 26th goal of the season from the spot.
Dean Smith declared: “I’m pleased we won the game, but not pleased with the performance. We can certainly perform a lot better.
“Albion came with a gameplan to sit behind the ball and slow the game down, which they did very well and they capitalised on a mistake from us.
“In the second half, we were better and we kept our width better. We created more opportunities, but it took a really good shot from Hourihane to get us back into it.”
Smith insisted Villa will “be going for the win” in the return fixture, as: “That’s how we want to approach games and how the players know I want to approach games.”
However, it is hard to get away from the fact that a draw would be enough to progress, so 6/1 for a 1-1 scoreline completes our West Brom vs Aston Villa betting tips.
