Argentina could experience more Copa America frustration when they face Uruguay in their second group match on Saturday.
La Albiceleste were held to a 1-1 draw by Chile in their opening game and now face a well-drilled and experienced La Celeste outfit.
Uruguay have only won once in five games but have kept clean sheets in three of their last four matches.
We’re taking 9/4 for Oscar Tabarez’s side to hold firm for a stalemate in our first Argentina vs Uruguay prediction.
A Look At Argentina’s Betting Odds
Argentina are 14-time South American champions but have not lifted the Copa America since 1993.
Four runner-up finishes in the last six stagings have left Lionel Messi without an international trophy to his name so far but La Albiceleste are unbeaten in their last 14 matches, albeit four of the last five have been drawn.
Lionel Scaloni started with Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria on the bench against Chile, only to see Messi’s opener cancelled out by Eduardo Vargas in the second half.
Scaloni could be tempted to recall Aguero in particular, after Argentina wasted a host of first-half openings against La Roja either side of Messi’s stunning free-kick.
There are also question marks about Argentina’s defence, with Nicolas Otamendi and Lucas Martinez at the heart of it, which has conceded in five of the last six games.
Looking at the Argentina vs Uruguay odds, we like 23/4 for the match to finish as a 1-1 draw.
A Look At Uruguay’s Betting Odds
Uruguay have not beaten Argentina since 2013 but they do have a more recent Copa America title than their rivals, having knocked La Albiceleste out on home soil in 2011 before going on to lift the trophy.
Head coach Tabarez has plenty of experience at his disposal, with five players in his squad having a century of caps under their belts, including Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani and captain Diego Godin.
This is Uruguay’s first match of the tournament after sitting out the opening round of fixtures, and alarmingly they have not scored in three successive World Cup qualifiers.
However, Cavani and Luis Suarez did not play together in any of those games and Tabarez will hope that they can rekindle their successful partnership.
Let’s finish off our Argentina vs Uruguay betting tips by taking Evens for both teams to score.
