All eyes will be on Antonio Conte when the former Chelsea manager returns to the Premier League at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Conte was appointed as the new Tottenham boss this week but it is hard to know what impact, if any, he can have made in such a short space of time.
His arrival should inject some much-needed energy into the Spurs squad, though, and that could lead to an entertaining match on Merseyside, with both teams to score at 4/5 our opening Everton vs Tottenham prediction.
A Look At Everton’s Betting Odds
Everton’s hopes of ending a run of three straight defeats can hardly have been helped by Conte’s arrival at Tottenham and they head into this game as the underdogs.
A promising start under Rafael Benitez has faded in recent weeks after winning just one of their last six league games and that was against rock-bottom Norwich.
Back-to-back home defeats by West Ham and Watford were followed by a 2-1 loss at Wolves on Monday, when Alex Iwobi’s second-half goal was not enough to undo the damage done during a poor first-half performance.
Several key players remain sidelined by injury as Benitez was quick to point out after the match at Molineux.
“This team has shown character and commitment,” he said. “We are missing some players but we can fight in the way we did in the second half.
“They are capable of reacting like we did in the second half and capable of making mistakes in the first half.
“We are missing some important players, I’m not talking about one or two, I’m talking about four.”
Until his selection options improve, Everton look worth opposing and with Spurs yet to draw a match this season, let’s take the away win at 6/4 in the Everton vs Tottenham odds.
Last Everton line-up: Pickford, Holgate, Godfrey, Keane, Coleman, Allan, Townsend, Iwobi, Gbamin, Richarlison, Gray.
Yerry Mina (thigh) remains out but fellow defender Lucas Digne has trained this week and is expected to be available.
Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin (thigh) and midfielders Andre Gomes (calf) and Abdoulaye Doucoure (foot) are absent.
A Look At Tottenham Hotspur’s Betting Odds
Spurs will hope Conte can make an immediate impact and his appointment is certainly a coup given he is regarded as one of the top coaches in the world.
The question in the short term is whether the players will raise their game to impress the Italian, with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris urging his team-mates to get on board and show their commitment.
“He is very ambitious and he believes in all the players in the dressing room,” Lloris said. “He will give his best to help the club to improve and to give a proper structure to the team.
“Then as players we need to demand more from each other. We need to show more responsibility for the clubs and fans.
“It is a great opportunity to work under one of the greatest managers of the last few years. Now is not the time for words. It is time to work.”
Tottenham have gone seven league games without a clean sheet but undoubtedly have the firepower if they can get back to their best form.
For the last of our Everton vs Tottenham betting tips, we like a 2-1 away win at 17/2.
Last Spurs EPL line-up: Lloris, Romero, Emerson, Dier, Davies, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Skipp, Son, Kane, Moura.
Conte picked a full-strength squad for his first game in charge against Vitesse in the Europa Conference League on Thursday and it was a tough encounter, which they won 3-2.
Defender Ryan Sessegnon and midfielder Bryan Gil (both hamstring) are not expected to be fit.
