Newcastle have struggled for goals this season but will hope last week’s 3-2 win at West Ham is a sign of things to come.
Bournemouth are also making hard work of finding the net recently despite only losing one of their last seven games.
We’ll take more convincing that last week’s result at the London Stadium was more than a flash in the pan for the Magpies and at least one team not to score at 9/10 is our opening Newcastle vs Bournemouth prediction.
A Look At Newcastle United’s Betting Odds
Newcastle had only managed six goals in the Premier League before last weekend but they took advantage of a woeful defensive display from the Hammers.
Goals from Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Jonjo Shelvey saw them roar into a three-goal lead and they held on for a second away victory of the season which hauled them away from the drop zone.
Late goals from Fabian Balbuena and Robert Snodgrass gave the scoreline a flattering look that West Ham did not deserve and Newcastle could have won by a bigger margin.
Their front three of Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton failed to find the net again, but their pace and power worried West Ham throughout.
Manager Steve Bruce said: “I’ve said before it takes time, for the lads who’ve come into the team it’s not easy to adapt to it. It was only Allan’s fourth game and he, Almiron and Joe were terrific in their work.
“If they can play like that and we get the other side right we’ll be OK. We were a threat and we caused them all sorts of problems.
“If I’m being critical we missed too many opportunities. They don’t come around that often. Almiron was terrific. When he scores, which he will do, we’ll see an even better player.”
Saint-Maximin was inexplicably up against 34-year-old Pablo Zabaleta but Bournemouth’s defence will not be outpaced as easily.
Newcastle’s five home games have produced just six goals so we’ll add under 1.5 goals to our Newcastle vs Bournemouth betting tips at 21/10.
Last Newcastle line-up: Dubravka, Clark, Lascelles, Willems, Fernandez, Yedlin, Shelvey, Hayden, Almiron, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin.
Newcastle will again be without Fabian Schar (knee) and Matt Ritchie (ankle). Sean Longstaff is still banned, while Florian Lejeune is closing in on a return from a cruciate ligament injury.
A Look At Bournemouth’s Betting Odds
Bournemouth’s recent games have been even less entertaining in terms of goals.
A 1-0 defeat at Arsenal was followed by back-to-back goalless draws with Norwich and Watford.
Josh King ended a 359-minute goal drought against Manchester United last weekend and a third successive clean sheet clinched a 1-0 win.
Manager Eddie Howe thinks the solid centre-back pairing of Steve Cook and Nathan Ake is among the best partnerships formed during his time at the Vitality Stadium.
“They are definitely up there. They compliment each other very, very well,” said Howe.
“You’ve got Cookie, who is a very aggressive aerially who loves to defend, very good on crosses, and Nathan reads the game so well and he has that composure about him that you notice instantly. They are playing very well together and long may that continue.”
Having already won at Aston Villa and Southampton this season, the Cherries have the quality to nick this so an away win to nil at 16/5 is our final pick from the Newcastle vs Bournemouth odds.
Last Bournemouth line-up: Ramsdale, Cook, Ake, Smith, Rico, Lerma, H Wilson, Fraser, Billing, King, C Wilson.
Bournemouth will be without suspended midfielder Jefferson Lerma. Dan Gosling (hip) could come into contention, while David Brooks (ankle) continues his rehabilitation, along with Junior Stanislas, Andrew Surman and Charlie Daniels (all knee).
West Ham 2-3 NEWCASTLE – Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez, Jonjo Shelvey
BOURNEMOUTH 1-0 Man Utd – Josh King
Head-to-head: Bournemouth 2-2 Newcastle, Newcastle 2-1 Bournemouth, Bournemouth 2-2 Newcastle, Newcastle 0-1 Bournemouth, Newcastle 1-3 Bournemouth, Bournemouth 0-1 Newcastle
