Leeds vs Wolves: Bruno's side packing a punch

Leeds vs Wolves: Bruno’s side packing a punch

Kick-off: 1500, 23/10/2021

Stadium: Elland Road

Wolves are enjoying a fine run of form under new manager Bruno Lage and will be determined to keep it going against Leeds at Elland Road.

The Portuguese lost his first three league matches – which arguably belied impressive performances – but has turned it round to win four of the last five and their last three matches.

Their dramatic comeback to win 3-2 at midlands rivals Aston Villa was a further shot in the arm for Wolves, who have won their last six meetings with Leeds.

We think they are good value at 11/5 to leave Elland Road with all three points as our first Leeds vs Wolves prediction.

A Look At Leeds United’s Betting Odds

Marcelo Bielsa’s swashbuckling side took the Premier League by storm last season on their top-flight return but have struggled to repeat those performances in the early stages of this season.

In the continued absence of injured marksman Patrick Bamford and without the mercurial Raphinha due to international commitments, the Whites were beaten 1-0 at Southampton.

They have won just once – a home win against newly-promoted Watford – in the league this season and find themselves 17th in the fledgling table.

Captain Liam Cooper said after the Southampton game: “You go one behind in this league and it’s always hard to come back. We stuck at it, I suppose that’s the only positive we can take really.

“You can’t go giving first-half performances away like that and we’ve got to learn from it.

“Obviously we’re missing a couple of players but that’s just how it is, that’s how it goes. You take two of the dominant players out of any team in the league, they feel it.”

Leeds have struggled in front of goal, while Wolves have shipped just eight goals in the league this season.

Wolves also won both fixtures last season 1-0 and an away win to nil may be worth the extra risk at 17/4 in the Leeds vs Wolves odds.

Last Leeds line-up: Meslier, Cooper, Llorente, Struijk, Dallas, Klich, Shackleton, Roberts, James, Rodrigo, Harrison.

Kalvin Phillips will not be rushed back into action by Bielsa following the midfielder’s recovery from injury.

Phillips withdrew from the England squad for their recent World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary after suffering a calf problem in the win over Watford and also missed the 1-0 defeat at Southampton.

Luke Ayling, Bamford, Junior Firpo and Robin Koch also remain sidelined but Raphinha is available after “acclimatising” on his return to England following his starring role in Brazil’s 4-1 win over Uruguay.

A Look At Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Betting Odds

Even the most optimistic of Wolves fans would not have expected a win from 2-0 down against Villa, but it was a victory that showed the growing confidence and belief in a squad which has played good football all season.

Romain Saiss, Conor Coady and Ruben Neves got the goals, while new signing Hwang Hee-chan has hit the ground running to ease the goalscoring burden on Raul Jimenez.

Lage said: “These are the kind of games we will remember for a long time. Villa are a massive club and when you come to play here, are 2-0 down and win 3-2 it’s a special day for us.”

Hwang has hit three goals in his first five Premier League matches and is fancied to score first at 6/1 as the last of our Leeds vs Wolves betting tips.

Last Wolves line-up: Sa, Coady, Kilman, Saiss, Semedo, Neves, Moutinho, Marcal, Dendoncker, Traore, Hwang.

Francisco Trincao is in contention for Wolves after he completed his period of self-isolation after contracting Covid-19.

The on-loan Barcelona forward returned to training this week but Willy Boly will not be part of the squad after he picked up an unspecified injury.
