Burnley vs Crystal Palace: Eagles have the edge

Burnley vs Crystal Palace: Eagles have the edge

Kick-off: 1500, 20/11/2021

Stadium: Turf Moor

Burnley picked up an unexpected point at Chelsea before the international break and will look to build on that at home to Crystal Palace.

We’re not reading too much into that result, though, given how dominant Chelsea were and 10th-placed Palace have been much more impressive this season.

The bookies are struggling to separate these two teams but we think Palace have the edge in quality and consistency so an away win at 8/5 is our opening Burnley vs Crystal Palace prediction.

Burnley Odds

Burnley were outplayed for much of the match at Stamford Bridge and went behind to Kai Havertz’s 33rd-minute effort.

Some last-ditch defending and a fine performance from goalkeeper Nick Pope kept the visitors in the game and Matej Vydra climbed off the bench to convert the Clarets’ first chance and rescue a 1-1 draw.

There was certainly no lack of effort on Burnley’s part but they remain in the bottom three and are 6/5 in the Premier League relegation odds.

Last month’s 3-1 victory at home to Brentford is their only win this season so we’re happy to oppose them but Burnley are rarely blown away at Turf Moor.

Both of their home defeats this season have been by a one-goal margin and another defeat by exactly one goal can be backed at 31/10 in the Burnley vs Crystal Palace odds.

Last Burnley line-up: Pope, Lowton, Taylor, Tarkowski, Mee, Gudmundsson, Brownhill, McNeil, Westwood, Wood, Cornet.

Ashley Barnes will be assessed after picking up a minor unspecified knock, while Aaron Lennon is available to return after illness.

Dale Stephens is continuing to make good progress but is still not ready to make his first-team return after injury.

Crystal Palace Odds

Palace start the weekend seven points and eight places above Burnley after a six-match unbeaten run which has lifted them into the top half of the table.

The stunning 2-0 win at champions Manchester City was followed by another 2-0 win at home to Wolves thanks to second-half goals from Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher’s fine form resulted in an England call-up during the international break and Zaha is in fine form too, with Palace no longer looking overly dependent on him in terms of creativity.

Palace’s first five away matches of the season were against the current top five and they scored six goals so there is a lot to like about this team under Patrick Vieira.

The Eagles have scored exactly two goals in four of their last five games so a 2-1 win at 9/1 completes our Burnley vs Crystal Palace betting tips.

Last Crystal Palace line-up: Guaita, Ward, Mitchell, Guehi, Andersen, Kouyate, McArthur, Gallagher, Ayew, Zaha, Edouard.

James McArthur is ruled out after he sustained a hamstring injury in training but Palace are boosted by the return to fitness of Ebere Eze after an Achilles issue.
