Cristiano Ronaldo transfer news: Odds cut on United return

We’re tracking the latest Cristiano Ronaldo transfer news and rumours to see whether the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could be on the move this summer.

Despite turning 36 in February, Ronaldo was the leading scorer in Italy’s top flight last season when bagging 29 Serie A goals for Juventus.

However, with the Bianconeri failing to sparkle in that competition or the Champions League and then dismissing Andrea Pirlo, taking on a fresh challenge may be tempting.

Here are the clubs being tipped to court the Portugal legend and the latest Cristiano Ronaldo transfer odds on him changing teams before September 3, with loan deals included:

MAN UTD @ 7/4

Ronaldo claimed three Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph during six seasons at Old Trafford from 2003 to 2009. Speculation of a return to United has been brewing for several years and the timing could be right this summer. The club’s owners need to make a splash in the transfer market to appease unhappy supporters and the Red Devils have done enough to suggest they can challenge for trophies.

PSG @ 5/2

It could be argued that joining PSG would be the perfect move into semi-retirement for Ronaldo, with a less demanding domestic schedule allowing him to focus on securing the European silverware so coveted by mega-rich owners. Neymar has done his best to persuade CR7 this would be a good fit and if Kylian Mbappe stays in Paris, that would be another big attraction.

Ronaldo enjoyed a stellar nine-year stint at the Bernabeu which yielded an incredible four Champions League triumphs, as well as two La Liga titles. Zinedine Zidane’s departure is just the start of a shake-up at the club, which fell just short of domestic and European success last term, and bringing back arguably the greatest of all their past Galacticos would definitely get the bandwagon rolling.

A return to where it all began would be an emotional move for Ronaldo but is he ready to wind down that much just yet?

MAN CITY @ 14/1

If it just came down to money and the prospect of picking up more trophies, Etihad Stadium would be an ideal destination but such is Ronaldo’s loyalty to United, we can’t see him destroying that legacy.

Ronaldo already has lucrative business interests in America and a similar deal to the one which ended up with David Beckham owning his own franchise would be interesting.
