Preston currently look the value bet at 18/1 in bwin’s Championship winner predictions after an impressive run which has lifted them to just a point off the summit.
North End are unbeaten in eight matches and enjoyed their biggest win of the season on Saturday with a 5-1 thrashing of Barnsley at Deepdale.
Daniel Johnson scored two and claimed two assists as the hosts shrugged off a first-half equaliser from Cameron McGeehan with a second-half display that had all the hallmarks of a side bang in form.
Preston are now third in the table and are the top scorers in the division with 23 goals but boss Alex Neil felt they could have had more against Barnsley.
“To be honest that has been coming, in a lot of the home games we have performed very well,” said Neil.
“I thought we were the better side from the first minute to the last minute. The only disappointment I have got is that after we scored the first goal we got a little bit sloppy.
“It was excellent to watch, entertaining, we could arguably have scored 10 goals – we missed four sitters in the first half and there was David Nugent’s chance in the second half as well.”
Baggies bounce back
West Brom are top of the Championship after bouncing back from a midweek defeat at Leeds with a second successive 4-2 home win, this time against Cardiff.
Boss Slaven Bilic said: “It’s early days but we have something really good to build on.”
They were not helped by the dismissal of Gaetano Berardi after conceding an early penalty but the result saw Leeds slip out of the automatic promotion places and down to fifth.
“The result should be different. Each time we lose always I find few logical reasons to justify it,” said head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
“For me, it’s always a shame to explain why we lost. I think with 10 men we were better than them.”
Leaders Swansea were also beaten as a late goal condemned them to a 2-1 defeat at home to previously winless Stoke, and the Swans are now out to 14/1 for the title.
Fulham are 4/1 after a 2-2 draw at home against Charlton while Nottingham Forest are level with West Brom on 22 points after a 1-0 victory at home to Brentford and can be backed at 16/1 for the title.
