Inter to win at Shakhtar @ 3/5
Inter’s clash with Real Madrid was far more entertaining than the 1-0 scoreline suggests and the Nerazzurri went close to taking the lead on several occasions before eventually conceding in the 89th minute. Simone Inzaghi has otherwise enjoyed a good start to his reign, with last season’s runaway Serie A winners dropping just two points in their first five domestic matches prior to Saturday’s cracking 2-2 draw with Atalanta. Shakhtar are going well in the Ukraine but suffered a damaging 2-0 defeat versus Sheriff in this competition.
RB Leipzig to beat Club Brugge @ 1/2
Brugge showed great spirit to come from behind when drawing 1-1 with PSG but, despite being top of the table, their form in Belgium’s Jupiler League has been patchy, including Saturday’s home stalemate with second-from-bottom Oud-Heverlee Leuven. Leipzig played their part in a thriller when going down 6-3 at Manchester City, where they only trailed 4-3 with 15 minutes to go and Christopher Nkunku hit a hat-trick. The French midfielder bagged a brace in Saturday’s timely 6-0 Bundesliga demolition of Hertha Berlin and RB look ready to kick on.
AC Milan and Atletico Madrid to draw @ 21/10
Both of these teams will have been disappointed with their opening Group B results, as Milan were beaten 3-2 by Liverpool at Anfield after leading 2-1 and Atletico could only draw 0-0 with Porto in Madrid. The Rossoneri will be happier with their domestic exploits, having registered five wins and an away draw at Juventus in Serie A, whereas Los Colchoneros are coming off a La Liga defeat at Alaves, but the Spanish side do not lose many group-stage games, so let’s take them to pick up another point in our Champions League predictions.
Borussia Dortmund to beat Sporting @ 1/3
Dortmund slumped to a 1-0 Bundesliga defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday but were without star striker Erling Haaland and Marco Reus and had Mahmoud Dahoud sent off in the first half, so we’re prepared to forgive and forget that setback. Borussia had previously scored 13 times in four straight victories, including a 2-1 triumph over Besiktas in Istanbul. Sporting are easy to oppose on a 5-1 drubbing by Ajax in Lisbon and a couple of 1-0 domestic victories since then are not enough to earn them another chance.
Real Madrid -2 goals vs Sheriff @ 17/20
Sheriff had to battle through four qualifying rounds to become the first team from Moldova to make the pool stage and the fairytale continued with a 2-0 home win over Shakhtar, thanks to a spectacular volley from Adama Traore and Momo Yansane’s header. All good things must come to an end, though, and taking on 13-time European champions Real is surely a step too far. The Whites shaded Inter in what felt like a high-quality affair and Carlo Ancelotti should be looking to boost their goal difference at the Bernabeu.
