Brighton and Newcastle are separated by just one point heading into a crucial match on Saturday night which could prove pivotal in the Premier League survival battle.

Sheffield United and West Brom already look doomed but the Seagulls and the Magpies are both in danger of filling the third relegation place.

Albion’s performances have been more encouraging so a home win and under 3.5 goals at 11/10 is our opening Brighton vs Newcastle prediction.

A Look At Brighton and Hove Albion’s Betting Odds

Brighton’s failure to turn decent performances into points has been one of the trends of the season, with their expected goals totals more in line with a club competing for a European place.

A run of three straight defeats left them hovering dangerously close to the drop zone, though, before last weekend’s much-needed 2-1 win at Southampton eased their worries.

Boss Graham Potter said: “I thought it was a deserved victory, it was a hard-fought game so I’m pleased for the players. We’ve had to suffer recently but we got the reward for the performance.

“They’re all massive games, we’ve 10 to go, the next one is always important and the next one is Newcastle.

“This three points gives us confidence and renewed belief. We’re going to keep fighting.

“We have belief in ourselves and believe that if we keep performing like we have been we can get results. It’s nice to have that reinforced.”

The lack of goals has been Brighton’s main issue and Leandro Trossard’s 56th-minute winner was the first time Albion had managed to score more than one goal in a Premier League match since the turn of the year.

Neal Maupay scored twice inside the first 10 minutes when the Seagulls won the reverse fixture 3-0 in September so will fancy his chances here.

Looking at the Brighton vs Newcastle odds, we like 15/8 for Maupay to score in a home win.

Last Brighton line-up: Sanchez, White, Dunk, Burn, Veltman, Bissouma, Gross, Lallana, Maupay, Trossard, Welbeck.

Brighton could have Dan Burn (hamstring) and Aaron Connolly (cracked rib) available. Tariq Lamptey, Solly March and Adam Webster are still out injured.

A Look At Newcastle United’s Betting Odds

Newcastle rescued a last-gasp equaliser to draw 1-1 with Aston Villa last weekend just as it looked like they had been beaten by a late goal, with Ollie Watkins’ header looping in off defender Ciaran Clark.

A third successive draw could prove to be a vital point but Steve Bruce’s side are still missing key players and have now won only twice in 19 games in all competitions.

Captain Jamaal Lascelles headed the equaliser against Villa and insists there is enough talent in the squad to avoid the drop.

He  told NUFC TV: “We’re confident. As players, we know we’ve got enough quality. You can see that it’s there, it’s just the final pass or the final decision or the final run.

“If we can get that right, the amount of chances we create, we can convert them into goals. We’ve just got to stick with it – we’ve still got a fair few games to go – stick with it and just keep battling on.

“It’s huge for us. Every game is massive now, it’s like a cup final and that’s the attitude we need to have going into every game.

“We’ll go down to Brighton, try to get a win and after the international break, reset and go again.”

We don’t share his confidence, though, and a 2-0 home win at 6/1 completes our Brighton vs Newcastle betting tips.

Last Newcastle line-up: Dubravka, Clark, Dummett, Lascelles, Krafth, Shelvey, Hayden, Fraser, Willock, Joelinton, Gayle.

Miguel Almiron (knee) could make the squad after returning to training. Fellow frontman Callum Wilson (hamstring) is also back on the grass, but the game will come too soon for both he and Allan Saint-Maximin (groin), while defender Fabian Schar continues his recovery from a knee problem.
