Belgium have already knocked out defending champions Portugal at Euro 2020 and may just be more battle hardened than quarter-final foes Italy.
The Azzurri impressed with their energy and enthusiasm during the group stage but then laboured to an extra-time defeat of Austria.
We reckon 11/10 for the Red Devils to reach the semis is good value for our first Belgium vs Italy prediction.
A Look At Belgium’s Betting Odds
After winning all three of their pool games, Belgium faced a stern test of their resolve when tackling holders Portugal at the last-16 stage.
However, Thorgan Hazard’s superb long-range strike approaching half-time put them in the driving seat and they held firm for a 1-0 success.
The Red Devils had to survive some strong pressure after the break, with Thibaut Courtois keeping out a powerful Ruben Dias header and Raphael Guerreiro hitting the post late on.
But head coach Roberto Martinez beamed: “We had incredible concentration and defended really well.
“Everything was about being disciplined and tactically astute. This is what a winning team needs.
“We know the talent we have but all the other elements you need were shown today. For us, it was the biggest test there is.”
The fact key playmakers Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard limped off is obviously a concern but Belgium have other big-game players.
Third place at the last World Cup and a series of strong Nations League results helped them top the FIFA rankings.
Looking at the Belgium vs Italy odds, we feel the Red Devils have the confidence and self-belief to score first at 5/4.
A Look At Italy’s Betting Odds
Roberto Mancini has embarked on an impressive rebuilding process as Italy boss since they failed to qualify for Russia 2018.
The Azzurri made it 11 straight clean-sheet victories when cruising through their group and were expected to brush aside Austria.
A bright start saw Nicolo Barella have a shot saved and Ciro Immobile graze the woodwork from 25 yards out but a drop in intensity allowed Das Team to grow into the game.
Marko Arnautovic had a goal chalked off by VAR for offside before Italy substitutes Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina turned things back around by striking in extra-time.
Sasa Kalajdzic’s brave header set up a tense finish but Mancini praised his side for digging deep.
Reflecting on his super-subs, the former Manchester City manager stated: “They were brilliant and that can be a huge advantage for us.
“The fact we have players that can step in and change the game because they are fresh, it was an excellent performance.”
Mancini deserves credit for getting the best out of his squad but that contest left us questioning whether they have enough star quality to progress further at this stage of their development.
Preference is for the Red Devils to win by any one-goal margin at 7/2 to complete our Belgium vs Italy betting tips.
BELGIUM 1-0 Portugal – Thorgan Hazard
ITALY 2-1 Austria (AET) – Federico Chiesa, Matteo Pessina
Head-to-head: Belgium 0-2 Italy, Belgium 3-1 Italy, Italy 3-1 Belgium
